♀ For Besties ♀
I’ve heard it said that female friendships aren’t worth it because women are “catty and jealous” but no friendship of mine has every worked the way they have with other women. No one has healed me or made me laugh quite like other women. Our friendships are so gloriously human. We force each other to confront ourselves and our emotions because women don’t hide anything (at least not from each other). We don’t have to mince words and shut parts of ourselves away because it’s “not cool” to talk about. There’s no face to save. We cry together. We put on our makeup and get dressed to kill together. We scream at each other sometimes and drunkenly profess our undying love and friendship at others. I think it’s part of why female friendships are so maligned in male driven images of them. They look dramatic to outsiders because they’re so raw and full of deeply personal histories. My friendships with other women have shaped so much of who I am and anyone lucky enough to have been a part of one can attest that they are a treasure larger than life. Guard them fiercely.
